Reducing Shedding - Black Tea Rinses

Ok so, I've been experiencing A LOT of shedding especially on wash days. I've been trying to combat it using the traditional methods of deep conditioning, finger detangling, coating my hair with pre-poo. I finally got on Google, typed in How To Reduce Shedding, and all kids of blogs popped up. So I became reading and most mentioned Green and Black Tea rinsing. I'd heard about tea rinsing before so it wasn't completely new but I didn't have the details.

So here is what I now know...
Benefits - promotes growth, decreases shedding by half on most (keep in mind everyone's hair is different), acts as a color rinse gradually darkening the hair, blocks DHT (dihydrotestosterone) hormone which can cause hair loss, and helps to thicken and strengthen hair.

Brewing method - (2) tea bags with (2) cups boiling water. Let it steep, then cool. I believe this is the minimum amount so as not to have a negative effect. What I understand is that your hair needs a certain amount of the caffeine in the tea to actually reduce the shedding.

Application - The application process is at your discretion. Here are a few ways I saw others do it on YouTube. You can pour cooled tea into an applicator bottle then squeeze all over. You can put into a spray bottle to spritz onto hair. These two methods are the least messy and gives you better control. I've encountered those that pour it over their head into another bowl and repeat. Whatever works for you :)

Hair Care - Let tea sit on hair from 20 minutes to an hour with cap. Apply deep conditioner onto hair after tea sits for desired time. Rinse. Style as desired.

When - Once a month. Too much caffeine can stunt growth. Lawd knows that we don't want that!

***side note: tea can stain so wear something old or use an old towel.

I will update once I actually do it. My next wash day is this coming weekend the 31st. I'm super excited! If you've done it let me know how it worked for you :)

Healthy Hair Journey!
