Yes I just washed my hair but I am in need of a color application. I've been wanting to return to my dark, jet black hair color for some time now. I thought the highlights would hold longer but I find them turning more and more brassy to my eyes even though I get compliments. I'd also been holding back because having a dark color can back fire and make your hair look dry. Even though I am still battling moisture I feel confident enough to go back to black :)
In regards to the lack of moisture in my hair I pre-poo'd my hair using my homemade mixture of conditioner and oils. I poo'd for an hour while I watched Discovery Channel and cleaned my bedroom. My hair felt really good after rinsing the conditioning treatment out.
I then followed up with my new fav shampoo, Creme of Nature Sulfate-free. I did this while my hair was sectioned into 4. I've seen hairlistas do this for varying reasons...less tangles and easier to manage hair. I gave it a try to help cut down on the number of shed hairs too. Anyhoo, I find shampooing in fours a lot easier than I expected and not so time consuming either.
After rinsing the shampoo I sprayed Affirm Fiberguard Preservo Strengthening Serum on my hair. Its "normally" used to condition and strengthen the hair during the chemical process. I use it before a relaxer, even though I wasn't using harsh color I still wanted to 'protect' my strands as much as possible. I left it on while I applied Clairol Professional Jazzing Hair Color in Ebony to my roots first then to remaining hair strand. The 3 fl. oz bottle was plenty to do my whole head. I originally purchased two bottles on sale each for $3.99 at Sally's Beauty Supply. I've never used Jazzing hair color but have heard good reviews so I gave it a try. Right off the bat it has a good smell and with just a twist of the top you immediately apply. I sat under the hooded dryer with a cap on my head for 35 minutes. Rinsed then deep conditioned overnight with Hairtrition 3-minute Deep Moisture Treatment.
Sunday, November 10th
Early morning rise (not planned). Rinsed the conditioner out my hair thoroughly. I haven't found a conditioner that 'WOWs!" me yet. I like a LOT of different ones but remain on the lookout. Kanechom is still on my list of wants...hint, hint!
After towel drying my hair I applied my leave-ins, re-sectioned my hair into 4s to dry, blow dried and flat ironed. Its a 10 and CHI Keratin Mist combined as my leave-ins seem to be working quite well. I still prefer a cream moisturizing leave-in such as Herbal Essence Split End Protector.
My color turned out good, not great, but I still wanted to deal with how drying and dull looking color can be with as much moisture without weight on my hair. A little experiment I did was on one side of my head I applied CHI Silk Infusion, Paul Mitchell Skinny Serum on the other to compare the shine and feel of my hair once flat ironed. Writing it all out looks like I applied a lot to my hair but not at all. The amount of each product was not more than a dime size. TRESSemme Heat Tamer before flat ironing and Argan oil after. My hair has tons of bounce and smells WONDERFUL!! I used a sample argan oil and I believe that is the reason for the wonderful smell.
