applied JBCO to my scalp the following day after relaxing and that's how I got it. I use JBCO as a growth aid and it helps but I'm going to have to wait till I have more new growth, which is what I normally do. On average I wait about a week after a relaxer to wash but I barely made it to the end of the week. One of the things that popped up this week on YouTube was porosity (the hairs ability to absorb moisture). It immediately struck me that of all the things I've learned about my hair this is one that I never thought of and its right up there along side balancing moisture and protein in the hair. Understanding my porosity with help me better build a regimen, choose the right products for my hair thus allowing me to actually have a healthier head of hair.
So I took a strand of hair, placed it in a glass of water and watched it for 10 minutes. The results show that I have low porous hair (cuticles are tight and resistant to moisture). Not a lot of information online in regards to porosity for relaxed hair so I read blogs and watched videos of natural women and the treatments they underwent. One such treatment is called the Cherry Lola Treatment (plain yogurt, liquid aminos and baking soda). Apply let it sit for 20 minutes to an hour, rinse, deep condition or co-wash, rinse, then apply styling products. I didn't try the treatment, instead I followed the suggestions of a blogger in changing my products and regimen. The blogger suggested those with low porosity use alkaline products, products with glycerin, avoid oils as sealants or all together, applying products on damp hair, bagging the hair or using steam to open the cuticle when deep conditioning. Being a bit of a product junkie I was able to have success with my wash day with what I already had in my stash. Pics show the products I used and these are the results. I'm very happy with how strong my hair feels :) I shampooed twice to remove buildup, mixed a moisturizing and protein treatment together versus doing them separate to deep condition for an hour with my thermal cap. Styled and flat ironed. I'll continue to test my porosity periodically to ensure that I'm using the best products, the right way for my hair
